No. 3 Bears Fall To No. 2 Stanford, 172-128
STANFORD – Freshman Amy Bilquist won the 100 and 200 backstroke events, each with season-best times, but the No. 3 Cal women's swimming & diving team fell to No. 2 Stanford, 172-128, on Saturday at Avery Aquatic Center.
Bilquist took the 100 back with a time of 52.59 and captured the 200 back with a mark of 1:53.80. She also finished second in the 50 free to teammate Farida Osman, who won after clocking in with a time of 22.45.
“We have some people that are really fighting hard,” Cal coach Teri McKeever said. “I think we have some places that we need to keep working on as we move forward.”
Junior Celina Li won the 1000 free with a time of 9:58.98 and sophomore Noemie Thomas took the 100 butterfly in 52.58.
Saturday marked the end of the dual meet season. The Bears (6-2, 5-2 Pac-12) will now start focusing on the Pac-12 Championships, to be held Feb. 24-27 in Federal Way, Wash.
“I think our job right now is to individually kind of pick one or two things where we can improve in the next two weeks,” McKeever said. “We need to do that and be OK with where that takes us. We need to do some of the little things better.”
