DAVIS – The No. 3 Cal women's water polo team continued to flash its trademark defense in notching two more victories Saturday at the Davis Invitational.

The Bears (13-1) held No. 12 Pacific scoreless in the first half and held off the Tigers for an 8-5 victory then came back to defeat Brown 11-3. Cal has now won nine games in a row.

Junior Stephanie Mutafyan led the offense with four goals in the two games while fellow junior Genevieve Weed and sophomore Carla Carrega added three. Carrega now has a team-high 31 goals this season.

Cal led Pacific 3-0 at halftime. The Tigers cut the Bears' advantage to two goals five times in the second half, and each time Cal had an answer.

Cal and Brown were tied 1-1 three minutes into the game, but the Bears then scored the next seven goals to lead 8-1 with 1:17 remaining in the third quarter.

The Bears will return to action next weekend at the prestigious UC Irvine Invitational. The two-day tournament will feature 16 teams all ranked in the CWPA Top-25.
