TEMPE, Ariz. --- After the first day of the Pac-12 / Big Ten Invitational, the California track and field teams are leading in the conference standings and rank in the top two against their interconference opponents.

The men's team scored 26 points to sit in first place among fellow Pac-12 schools Arizona State (20 points), Washington (14) and Arizona (2). Cal's tally also puts them ahead of Big Ten leader Michigan's 20 points.

On the women's side, Cal leads the Pac-12 field with 22 points to pace ASU (14 points), Arizona (4) and Washington (4). Compared to the Big Ten standings, the Bears trailed Nebraska by four points (26).

The opening day of the event consisted of six events, with Cal and Nebraska each winning a pair. The Bears went 1-2 in the men's and women's 5000 Meters as Trent Brendel (14:29.22; 10 pts), Chris Walden (14:30.74; 8 pts), Marissa Williams (16:25.52; 10 pts) & Sydney Gray (16:39.01; 8 pts) collected 18 points apiece for their teams in the events.
