SANTA CRUZ, CA – Cal (353-360 – 713, +13) dropped two spots into seventh place following the conclusion of second-round action Tuesday at the Western Intercollegiate hosted by San Jose State at Pasatiempo Golf Club. Four Cal players – KK Limbhasut (69-74 – 143, +3), Collin Morikawa (71-72 – 143, +3), Jamie Cheatham (73-70 – 143, +3) and Sebastian Crampton (71-72 – 143, +3) – are tied for 30th place.

Cheatham had the top performance of the day by a Golden Bear with an even-par round that moved him up the leaderboard 20 spots. Cheatham, who began on the sixth hole in a shotgun start, would birdie his second and third holes of the round by making a 30-footer on the par-four seventh and a 20-foot downhill slide on the par-three eighth. He would never fall below even-par the rest of the round, adding a birdie on the par-four 14th while making bogey at the par-four 11th, 16th and fourth holes.

“I had a nice start,” Cheatham said. “It gave me some good confidence with the putter early. Then I kept the ball in play and avoided making big numbers. My play from tee to green has been a strength. Pasatiempo is such a good test of golf in every facet of the game.”

Morikawa and Crampton matched each other's scores for the second straight round.

Morikawa's two-under par round that also began on the sixth hole was wild with four birdies, as well as back-to-back double bogeys, and bogeys on both his first and final hole on the par-five sixth and par-three fifth. Two of his four birdies were on par-threes (8, 18), while the others were on par-fours (1, 4). His double bogeys came on the par-four 12th and par-five 13th.

Crampton, who started on the seventh hole, had three birdies (9, 12, 6) and five bogeys (8, 10, 11, 16, 2). His first two birdies on the ninth and 12 holes were on par-fives while his first bogey was on the par-three eighth. All of the other birdies and bogeys were on par-fours.

Limbhasut started the second round tied for 13th at one-under par and came up with back-to-back birdies on his first two holes on the sixth and par-four seventh holes to quickly get to three-under par. But he played his final 16 holes in six-over par for his final score, making five bogeys (8, 10, 12, 17, 3) and one double bogey when he four-putted the second green while adding only one more birdie (16).

Cameron Shaw (72-72 – 144, +4) is tied for 40th one shot and 10 spots behind the Cal foursome tied for 30th. He was able to recover from a double-bogey on his second hole on the par-three eighth to play even-par golf the rest of the way.

Walker Huddy (73-72 – 145, +3) is one stroke behind Shaw alone in 46th place playing as an individual, while Shotaro Ban (70-76 – 146, +6) is another shot back in a tie for 47th. Ban had Cal's highest finish ever at the Western Intercollegiate in 2015 when he was second.

Stanford (345-347 – 692, -8) was the only team in the red Tuesday with a three-under par round and is three strokes ahead of second-place and first-round leader Oregon (341-354 – 695, -5) heading into Wednesday's final round that begins with a shotgun start at 8:45 am PT. Oregon's Aaron Wise (63-66 – 129, -11) has a one-stroke lead on Stanford's Maverick McNealy (66-64 – 130, -10) on the player leaderboard.
