SACRAMENTO, Calif.-- The No.2 Golden Bears took on No.1 Brown, No.18 Notre Dame, No.16 Iowa, No.7 Stanford, No. 15 Gonzaga, Sacramento State, LMU, and No.12 Wisconsin this past weekend at the Lake Natoma Invitational in their last multi-lane competition before Pac-12s.
The races commenced on Saturday morning, as all three of Cal's Varsity Fours dominated their heats. The Second Varsity Eight followed course with a solid showing in their heat (6:34.99), and the Varsity Eight finished its first race of the day eight seconds before Notre Dame and more than 10 seconds before Iowa. The Varsity Eight finished the day off with a win in their second heat with a lengthy 15-second lead.
Saturday also featured Cal's Third Varsity Eight (6:42.41) and Fourth Varisty Eight (6:44.27) in intersquad competition, where both sqauds dominated Sacramento State and the two boats finished within two seconds of each other.
The first day of competition was capped off with Cal's Second Four winning in their Grand Final against No.1 Brown and No. 18 Notre Dame.
Sunday's racing began with Cal's Third and Fourth Varisty Eight in their Grand Final with a close loss to Wisconsin, who finished a meer three seconds before Cal's 3V8. The Varisty Four turned the day around for the Bears, winning their Grand Final by four seconds over No.1 Brown and No.7 Stanford.
Cal's Second Varsity Eight closed out their day with a one-second tight loss to No.1 Brown, and the day ended with Cal's Varisty Eight winning their race, beating No.1 Brown and No.7 Stanford by a large margin.
Next up, the Bears head home to Redwood Shores, California to compete against Washington on April 23 and Stanford on April 30 in Redwood Shores. The Bears then head back to Gold River on May 15 to defend their Pac-12 title at the 2016 Pac-12 Championships.
