SAN FRANCISCO - Nine Golden Bears have been named to the 2016 Pac-12 All-Academic team, announced today by Commissioner Larry Scott. Seniors Charlotte Passot and Sarah Schwartz, along with junior Rowan McKellar, and Sophomore Roisin Duffy were named to the second team. Senior Charlotte Siering, juniors Hailey Drangsholt and Inger Kavlie, and sophomores Katie DeHaas and Jacqueline Holben were acknowledged as honorable mentions, bringing the total to 15 Golden Bears honored by the conference.
2015 Pac-12 rower of the year, Kendall Chase was named the 2016 Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the year after her vital contributions on the Bears' top varsity eight boat. The interdisciplinary studies major held a 3.5 GPA while guiding the varsity eight boat this season to victories at the San Diego Crew Classic, the Pac-12 Invitational, the Lake Natoma Invitational, a dual against the University of Washington taking home the Simpson Cup, and a Pac-12 team championship for the second consecutive year, and a National Championship for only the third time in program history. Internationally, Chase earned two gold medals for Team USA at the Under 23 World Championships in Plovidv, Bulgaria last summer in the women's 4- and 8+ and was most recently named to the 2016 U.S. Women's Under 23 National Team Selection Camp to be held in Princeton, N.J., at Princeton University. Chase along with 31 other athletes including teammate Hannah Christopher, will be up for selection to compete for Team USA at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships August 21-28 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's competitions.
