Mike Teti Named IRA Coach of the Year
After leading the Golden Bears to the varsity eight title at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association championships last month, Cal head men's crew coach
Mike Teti has been named the IRA Men's Heavyweight Coach of the Year.
"I recognize that the coaching level of the crews at the IRA Championships is high and I am honored that they would vote for me," Teti said. "I owe a lot to my team and the staff. We had a good team with talented athletes that performed when they needed to. I am very humbled."
Teti just completed his eighth year guiding the Bears' program. In addition to the national honor, he was tabbed the Pac-12 Coach of the Year after Cal captured the conference championship.
During the regular season, the Bears defeated both Washington and Stanford in dual racing, while the Bears swept the novice, second varsity and varsity eight events at the Pac-12 regatta. At the IRA Championships, Cal earned its 17th varsity eight title and also claimed silver in the freshman eight and bronze in the varsity four and second varsity eight to bring home the Ten Eyck trophy.
