The Golden Bears are 3-2 in conference action with a chance at taking their only other regular-season contest against an Evergreen State opponent. Cal defeated Washington 69-59 on Thursday evening, marking the 11th time this season in which the Bears defeated their opponent by nine or more points. At home in Berkeley, the Bears are averaging 73.1 points and holding opponents to 37.3 percent shooting, while outrebounding opponents by a +7.3 margin and avereraging 5.2 blocks per game.

Sophomore forward Ivan Rabb, an AP Preseason All-American appearing on multiple major award watch lists, has been stellar in his second swing in the Pac-12. Since Pac-12 play began, Rabb is averaging 18.0 points and 14.6 rebounds. Cal's presence in the paint is boosted by junior Kingsley Okoroh, who is quickly making his way up Cal's single-season and career blocked shots total with a conference-leading 45 blocks this season. Senior Jabari Bird is just three points away from becoming the 47th Golden Bear to notch 1,000 career points.

Bird, who currently owns 997 career points, would be the 47th Golden Bear to score 1,000 points in his Cal career. RABB NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK

After powering Cal to an upset of No. 25 USC, Ivan Rabb earned the first Pac-12 Player of the Week honors of his career this week. With Cal down 73-72 in the waning seconds of the USC game, Rabb hit both of his free throws to give the Bears a 74-73 edge. The Trojans began mounting their comeback with 5.2 seconds on the clock and as Jordan McLaughlin went up for the final shot with one second remaining, Rabb blocked the shot. It was one of two blocks he logged after picking up four fouls, earning his fourth foul at 9:44 of the second half. Earlier in the week, Rabb logged a career-high 20 rebounds at No. 4 UCLA to make him the first Golden Bear with 20+ rebounds since Leon Powe's 20 vs. USC on March 9, 2006.

Rabb led his teammates by averaging a double-double with 17.0 points per game and 14.0 rebounds per game in the second week of Pac-12 play.

GLASS ACT

Ivan Rabb, who broke the Cal freshman rebounding record last season, has continued his stellar play on the glass as a sophomore. Rabb is averaging 11.0 rebounds per game and has been on a hot streak as of late with a 14.6 rebound average in Pac-12 play. He leads the conference in rebounds per game, and also ranks second in defensive rebounds per game (8.3) behind Washington State's Josh Hawkinson (8.6). In four of the five Pac-12 games this season, Rabb has pulled down 14 or more boards.

BEARS BUILD ON DEFENSIVE PROWESS

With defense as a staple of head coach Cuonzo Martin's program, California has once again emerged as a force on the floor, where the Bears rank among the nation's elite. Cal is:
• 10th in defensive rebounds per game (29.41)
• 13th for total rebounds per game (41.18)
• 14th for field goal percentage defense (38.5 percent)
• 16th for rebound margin (8.1)
• 17th for scoring defense (62.2 ppg)

RABBID PLAY

AP Preseason All-American Ivan Rabb is living up to his billing this season, averaging 15.7 points and 11.0 rebounds.  He ranks in the top 30 in the country in (7th, 11.0) , defensive rebounds per game (8th, 8.27), rebounds per game and double-doubles (21st, 8).

Rabb started Pac-12 play with a string of three double-doubles -- all three coming with 15 or more rebounds -- including a career-best 20 boards at No. 4 UCLA. He became the first Golden Bear with 20+ boards since Leon Powe in March 2006. He has now recorded four double-doubles in five Pac-12 contests.

In back-to-back games, Rabb scored a then-career-best 25 points in Cal's OT win over Louisiana Tech, then followed it up with a 26-point game against Alcorn State. He scored the 26 points on a 10-12 outing from the floor and 6-7 clip at the charity stripe in just 29 minutes. Rabb upped his career-high rebound total to 16 against 18th-ranked Arizona, and owns a team-best five double-doubles this season.

Rabb made his return to the Cal lineup for the first time this season against San Diego State, where he came off the bench and logged a team-high 30 minutes of action. Though Rabb had just three points in the first half on a 3-5 performance at the charity stripe, he finished the game only two points shy of his career-high total with 19 points. After returning from injury, Rabb posted a career-long four-game double-double streak.

THE KING'S COURT

Okoroh's paint presence ranks among the best in the country, where he is top 20 in two categories. Okoroh is averaging 2.65 blocked shots per game, a total that ranks 16th the nation and 2nd in the Pac-12, and his 45 total blocks this season are 14th in NCAA action.

In a four-game stretch from Nov. 21 to Nov. 30, the Derby, England native set career-highs in each game. He started the string off by setting a personal-best rebound total of 9 against San Diego State, and followed the performance with a career-high 5 blocks against Wyoming. He capped off the week by matching both his career-best point (10) and rebound (9) totals and setting a new personal-best mark for assists with 3 against Southeastern Louisiana. Against Louisiana Tech, Okoroh set new career-high boards (12) and assist (4) totals on top of matching his career-high blocks (5).

DEFENDING THE HOME COURT

Cal's defense has been particularly stingy inside Haas Pavilion this year, with the Bears surrendering just 59.6 ppg and holding opponents to 37.3 percent shooting from the floor. Cal owns a +7.3 rebounding margin and is averaging 5.2 blocks per game on Pete Newell Court. The Bears are averaging 73.1 points at home, including five 80-point games. Individually, three Cal players are contributing 15+ point scoring averages at home: Ivan Rabb (16.9), Jabari Bird (15.3) and Charlie Moore (14.8).

Cal prepares for a two-game road trip in Oregon, which starts on Thursday in Eugene against the Ducks at 6 p.m. The Bears wrap up the trip at Oregon State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
