BERKELEY – California women's tennis wrapped up another successful day at the Cal Winter Invitational on a sunny Saturday, winning six of eight matches in singles and two of four in doubles at the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts. Cal senior Maegan Manasse and Maya Jansen remained unbeaten in both singles and doubles with victories on Saturday.

"We had some good matches today," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "We came out playing well this morning in the singles. I was pleased to see us make some adjustments in doubles today. There are some individual things to work on, but it's still January. We had a great day today and beautiful weather."

Playing on Hellman's court one, the 49th-ranked Manasse bested Fresno State's Katerina Stloukalova, 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-3, in Cal's last singles match of the day. Earlier on court four, Jansen defeated the Bulldogs' Olivia Noble, 6-1, 6-3.

Cal also got wins over FSU on Hellman's court two (sophomore Olivia Hauger beat Juliane Triebe, 6-1, 6-2), court three (senior Denise Starr defeated Emma Wilson, 6-2, 6-3) and court five [sophomore Maria Smith topped Galina Bykova, 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-4]. On court six, Cal senior Stephane Lin fell to the Bulldogs' Ndindi Ndunda, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

At the Channing Tennis Courts, Cal junior Audrey Mayer lost to FSU's Georgia Lawson, 6-1, 6-3, while freshman Alexis Nelson defeated the Bulldogs' Abbey Watanabe, 6-3, 6-0.

The Bears closed the day with four doubles matches at Hellman, as three Cal pairs faced Saint Mary's and one took on a Fresno State team.

Manasse and Jansen – who between the two of them played in the last three NCAA doubles finals (with Manasse and Starr playing in last spring's championship) – played in just their second match together in doubles. The Bears defeated the Gaels' Parminder Kaur and Jana McCord, 6-1, on court one. Cal's new pairing was likewise dominant in a 6-1 win over the 50th-ranked Stloukalova and Lawson on Friday.

It's too early to say whether Jansen – the two-time national doubles champion – and Manasse will form one of Cal's three doubles teams during the dual-match season, but….

"They both have great strengths that mesh well together," Augustus said. "But it's only been a couple of matches. We're trying to find the three best doubles teams, and we're looking at everything this weekend. We'll keep tinkering with it for a little while."

Over on court three in doubles, the Gaels' Danielle McIntyre and Kareena Manji upset the 40th-ranked duo of Smith and Starr. Soon on court two, Hauger and Nelson defeated Clementine Clement and Emma Critser, 6-2.

In the Bears' last match of the day, Lin and Mayer lost to the Bulldogs' Ndunda and Wilson, 6-4, on court four.

"One more day of matches tomorrow," Augustus added, "and that'll really give us a focus for our practices over the next couple weeks to get ready for the team matches."

The Cal Winter Invitational ends on Sunday, with singles starting at 10 a.m. at Hellman.
