BERKELEY – The Cal Winter Invitational ended with familiar results, as Maegan Manasse captured the singles and, with Maya Jansen, the doubles crowns as the three-day event concluded on Sunday evening at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The Golden Bear senior repeated as the tournament's singles champ.

The 49th-ranked Manasse defeated Jana McCord of Saint Mary's, 6-4, 6-4, to finish 3-0 at No. 1 singles, while the pair of Manasse and Jansen, a graduate student, beat Cal Poly's Seriana Saltzen and Susanne Boyden, 6-1, to post a 3-0 record at No. 1 doubles.

"Maegan's hitting the ball great and is hitting the ball well," Cal head coach Augustus said. "We're getting her more and more matches. That combined with her experience, she should be developing more and more confidence. She knows what it takes and she's looking to keep getting better as she prepares after she's done to take the next step into her professional career. She's excited to have a great spring, as are all the girls."

On the last day of the tournament, Cal compiled an 10-2 record, including 7-2 in singles and 3-0 in doubles.

"Today was great," Augustus said. "I was really pleased to see us go undefeated in doubles today. They came out with the intensity and aggressiveness that we wanted them to. After a little bit of a foggy start this morning we got things underway and we transitioned nicely to singles. I'm really glad everyone got to compete today, whether it was this morning or this afternoon.

"We had some three-setters, and I was really pleased to see us work our way through those. This team is learning to fight and create ways to get through matches. If we can continue to do that, that's going to really to pay off as we go forward into the season."

Cal next plays Jan. 29-30 when it hosts an ITA Kick-Off Weekend at Hellman.
