TUCSON, Ariz. – Cal (300-288-296 – 884, +32) wrapped up Arizona Intercollegiate action Tuesday with a sixth-place finish overall placing ahead of four squads that came into the 18-team event among Golfstat's Top 50 and five that were ranked higher than the Golden Bears. Cal was led by William Aldred (72-70-76 – 218, +5), who tied for 12th in the highest finish of his collegiate career. Defending national champion and No. 20 Oregon (293-288-276 – 857, +5) captured the team title while the Ducks' Wyndham Clark (70-71-68 – 209, -4) was the individual medalist.

Collin Morikawa (T20th, 72-76-73 – 221, +8), Tanner Hughes (T23rd, 75-73-74 – 222, +9), Finigan Tilly (52nd, 81-75-73 – 229, +16) and Sean Yu (T64th, 82-70-80 – 232, +19) were also in the Cal lineup.

Cal resumed action Tuesday in second place four shots behind Oregon and wrapped up a four-over par second round of 288 that was suspended due to darkness Monday to equal Oregon for the best second round. The Bears began Tuesday's scheduled third and final round in second place seven strokes behind the Ducks but fell back to its final sixth-place showing after a 12-over par 296.

Aldred had a similar fate by wrapping of a one-under par second-round of 70 that tied for the second best in the field on Tuesday and had him alone in second place one shot behind Clark after 36 holes before his final-round six-over par 76 dropped him 10 spots to his final tied for 12th position.

"This was certainly a rollercoaster tournament," Alex and Marie Shipman Director of Men's Golf Walter Chun said. "We had our good moments, but we also had our moments we'd like to forget. No question we are all disappointed in how we played today. The pressure of being in contention probably got to us all, but at least we put ourselves in that position. Rather than dwell on the 'what if's' we have to learn and grow from it. It's only January so there is room for growth. We beat a lot of good teams which shows we can play at a high level."

Morikawa had a team-high five birdies in Tuesday's third round while equaling Tilly's two-over par 73 for the Bears' top score in the final 18 holes.

Tilly and Yu were making their Cal debuts at the event.

Cal returns to action February 15-17 at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate being hosted by Hawai'i at the Wailua Golf Course.
