Opening statement:
"I thought it was a hard-fought game. Both teams -- especially in the first half -- did a great job of playing hard, playing physical and playing aggressive. I thought the officials did a great job of allowing guys to play and communicate to guys through the course of the game. I figured it'd be a tough, tough grimy game. They did a great job being prepared, assertive in the first half. Probably the best job in blitzing the post that Ivan's probably seen in awhile, so they had a lot to do with what we didn't do in the first half. They were big, they were aggressive, they were assertive and they rotated well out of the double and finding guys. They had our perimeter guys a little stagnant, not as assertive or ready to take the shot or drive the basketball, but we expected that."
Â
On difference in the second half with an improved offense:
"I think it was Ivan -- it was really simple. Two things: guys on the perimeter shot ready and if you don't have a shot ready, then attack off the dribble. The next part, which is the biggest part, was Ivan being assertive around the rim and making plays. If the double comes, then make plays out of the double, but for us offensively we have to flow through Ivan and everyone else kind of fall in line and understand what they need to do. (Jabari) Bird can pitch in. You need those two guys to play at a high level, but really settle in and recognize. If you watch him outside of one game in league play, he settles in and notices when a double team is coming, where they're coming from with the double, then he starts to read and he makes plays from there."
Â
On Ivan starting to take more 3-point attempts:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
"He's spent a lot of time on that. That's a shot we wanted him to take last year because he can shoot it. But again he's one of those guys where it's how he's feeling, because he's not going to do anything if he feels like it is going to hurt the team. With him taking three's, he's put the time into it. We need him because he can shoot it. He can shoot the ball and he's put the time into working on it. I expect him to shoot those."
Â
On defense creating offense in transition:
"We spent a lot of time on that with this week off, going back to basics. Once you get into league play it's hard to work on some things you worked on in early October, which that is what we did the first three days of our off days. I had the practices planned form October with the first two to three days and that's what it was. That's how we have success. We have to take care of the basketball offensively and we have to defend. We have to corral guys into Ivan, King, and Kam, and our guards have to do a solid job."
Â
California Senior Guard Jabari Bird
On offensive flow:
"It wasn't (hard to find). It hit us in the mouth early on, but we just were missing good shots. We kept feeding down low, Ivan got going, I got going—it wasn't too difficult, we really just needed to start making shots."
Â
On Moore's facilitation of the game:
"Charlie did a great job breaking the defense down, getting in the middle, especially finding Ivan for those lobs and finding shooters and everything like that, so I think he did a tremendous job getting other guys involved even though he wasn't scoring as much. "
Â
On Coach's halftime talk:
"We had to pick it up offensively a little bit. We were shooting really badly from the three and inside the paint. Defensively we were fine. They weren't shooting very well either. It was really us doing what we do and making them feel us. Once we kind of got into them a little bit, they started taking tough shots--they got a little erratic and capitalized"
Â
California Sophomore Forward Ivan Rabb
On overcoming slow start:
"It was just a little celebration. That's all. I finally got something going. I was feeling good. It was just the emotion, that's all."
Â
On being halfway through the season:
"I think we're growing. We had a great week of practice. Guys were at the gym, getting extra work in. I feel like that's why we were extra crisp today. In the first half, shots weren't always going in, but they looked good and they felt good. "
Â
On Moore's facilitation of the game:
"He did a great job just taking what the defense gave him. He's capable of scoring and facilitating. Once he really gets both down at the same time, he'll be a terrific player."
Â
Stanford Head Coach Jerod Haase
On difference between first and second half:
"They did a nice job of adjusting and getting the ball into the paint more. I thought we were efficient in our double teams and we flew around on defense. We really emphasized getting three-point shots and then limiting three pointers. They did a nice job of adjusting and driving into our perimeter players, and that opened up angles for them and it gave [Ivan] Rabb good looks."
Â
On Ivan Rabb:
"There's a reason why he has all of these personal accolades. He's long, lean, can pass, drives the basket and that's a pretty good resume."Â
Â
On flow of the game:
"I think we are improving on our process and implementing our gameplan. I really do. I really do think we are making progress, I just wished we played a little more efficiently and knocked some more shots down and all that progress will lead to success and success on offense for sure."
Â
Stanford Junior Forward Reid Travis
Â
On mentality into the game:
"It was good in the first half, adn then I started getting into foul trouble. I knew I didn't have much time left to impose my will into the game, but foul trouble came in and I credit my teammates for getting me open looks in transition, so it just felt normal."
Â
On Ivan Rabb:
"I wouldn't necessarily consider it a coincidence. I give a lot of credit to my teammates for defending him well. I thought I was doing well on him in the first half, then he started getting looks. He got confidence as he was getting good looks and that's what good players do. We just have to do a better job of taking leading scorers out of the game."
