GOLD RIVER  – The Cal women's rowing team began its fall racing campaign this weekend, competing at the Head of the American hosted on Lake Natoma. The runner-ups at the 2017 NCAA Championships, the Golden Bears had numerous boats racing at Saturday's event, gaining valuable experience against crews from across the west coast, including Pac-12 rivals USC and Washington.

Notable results from the competition include first place finishes in the women's collegiate eight, collegiate four, novice eight, and collegiate pair.

"The team raced hard and with some enthusiasm," said head coach Al Acosta, now in his fourth season as head coach of the Golden Bears. "All of the coaches were happy to see that changes made in practice were applied on race day. It was also fun to see our freshmen go after it for the first time!"

The Golden Bears will close out the 2017 fall schedule on Saturday, November 11, taking on Stanford. Cal will resume racing in the spring at the San Diego Crew Classic on March 24 and 25.
