BERKELEY – The No. 4 Cal women's water polo team had 11 different players score goals in a 14-4 win over Santa Clara on Saturday at the California Speedo Cup II at Legends Aquatic Center.

Juniors Carla Carrega and Kindred Paul each scored two goals while freshman Hannah DeRose also added a pair. The Bears' first six goals of the game were each scored by a different player, and Cal led 6-0 at halftime.

Cal got it going immediately when Paul scored a goal on the first possession of the game. Goals by senior Stephanie Mutafyan, freshman Emma Wright and Carrega put the Bears in front 4-0 at the end of the first quarter. Senior Emily Loughlin and junior Genevieve Weed notched second-period goals for Cal.

The teams exchanged two goals apiece during the early portion of the third quarter to give the Bears an 8-2 lead, but the Bears then got consecutive scores from Carrega, DeRose and sophomore Sarah Siepker to push the advantage to 11-2 with 2:11 remaining in the third period.

Freshman MacKenzie Davey scored her first career goal for the Bears late in the fourth quarter.

The Bears (10-1) now get ready for next weekend's prestigious UC Irvine Invitational, which features 16 teams all ranked in the CWPA Top-25. Cal begins the tournament Friday against No. 16 San Jose State.
