No. 4 Bears Run Away From Spartans

IRVINE – The No. 4 Cal women's water polo team broke an early tie with eight unanswered goals and went on to a 13-6 victory over No. 17 San Jose State on Friday afternoon on the first day of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational at UC Irvine.

After the teams exchanged two goals each in the first quarter, Cal (11-1) reeled off eight straight scores to lead 10-2 with 3:01 left in the third period. Senior Emily Loughlin had two goals during the stretch to help the Bears take command.

Juniors Dora Antal and Carla Carrega each also had two goals for the Bears. For Antal, she moved into seventh place on the program's all-time scoring list.

Senior goalie Madeline Trabucco played the first three quarters in the cage for Cal and registered seven saves.

The win sets up a showdown with No. 5 Arizona State on Saturday at 9:15 a.m.
