SEATTLE – Ashtyn Davis equaled a personal-best in racing to a 60-meter hurdles win to highlight Cal's performances Saturday on the final day of the 2017 MPSF Indoor Championships at Dempsey Indoor. Davis' victory helped the Cal men to a seventh place finish with 45.5 points while the women's squad was 12th with 17.33.

"I've been running at this meet for the last couple of years and my freshman season I would have never thought I would be the one to win it," Davis said. "It's an honor to win this meet, and I'm looking forward to doing well at the NCAA Championships if my time holds up."

Garrett Corcoran and Tyler Brendel finished second and third Saturday in the 3000 meters and heptathlon, respectively. Corcoran recorded the second-fastest 3000-meter time in school history and took nearly 15 seconds off his personal best (7:52.10). Brendel had personal bests in all seven heptahlon events over the two-day meet and totaled 5,674 points. Brendel won his second heptathlon event of the meet Saturday with a victory in the 60-meter hurdles (8.11) while he was third in the pole vault (15-9) and fourth in the 1000 meters (2:43.66).

"It was great to see some top-notch performances at this meet," Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Tony Sandoval said. "Ashtyn, Garrett and Tyler were outstanding today but throughout the meet several others also stepped up to score and set personal bests."
Noel Frazier, Malik McMorris, Ellis Newton, Peter Simon and Karsten Wethington also scored for the men on Saturday. Newton (1:51, 800 meters), Simon (59-6.75, shot put) and Wethington (47.6-50, triple jump) each finished sixth, while Frazier cleared 6-9 in the high jump in his final indoor performance to tie for seventh, and McMorris launched a 57-7 shot put to take eighth.

Ashley Anderson was the only woman to score Saturday with a personal-best triple jump of 40-4.75 to finish sixth.

"This is a heck of a meet," Sandoval said. "It is basically a regional meet and not just a conference meet. There is not an easy point anywhere. The competitiveness of the meet was an eye-opener for a lot of our student-athletes, but overall we competed well. Participating in this type of meet will help us better prepare physical and mentally for the outdoor season."

Cal opens its outdoor season March 4 by hosting the Cal Outdoor Opener before the indoor season concludes at the NCAA Indoors March 10-11 at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.
