No. 4 Bears Split Matches Vs. Top-5 Foes
IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 4 Cal women's water polo team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational, defeating No. 5 Arizona State 10-4 before falling to No. 1 Stanford 12-9 in the semifinals.
The Bears (12-2) scored the final four goals of the game to pull away from the Sun Devils, as juniors
Anna Illes and
Carla Carrega each found the back of the cage twice to provide the final scoring margin. Illes finished with four goals for the Golden Bears. Senior

Emma Wright each added two scores apiece.

Madeline Trabucco made eight saves against ASU.
The Cardinal led Cal throughout but the Bears made a run late in the third period to close the gap. With Stanford leading 10-5, Loughlin scored a goal followed by a pair by junior
Kindred Paul to make it 10-8 with 1:10 left in the third quarter.
The Cardinal answered with two goals in a row before junior
Dora Antal scored her third goal of the game to close out the scoring. Antal, who moved into fifth place on Cal's all-time scoring list on Friday, now has 176 in her career.
Paul also had a hat trick against the Cardinal.
Cal now has two losses this season, both to No. 1 Stanford by three goals each time.
The Bears will play in the Third Place Game at 11:30 a.m.on Sunday against No. 3 UCLA..
