Joyce And Davis Advance At NCAA Indoors

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Both Thomas Joyce (mile) and Ashtyn Davis (60m hurdles) advanced to the final in their respective events Friday at the NCAA Indoor Championships from College Station, Texas.

In the mile, Joyce finished in 10th overall, fifth in his heat, snagging the final qualifying spot for the final with a time of 4:01.012. He just edged past the 11th-place finisher, Jonah Koech of UTEP, and his time of 4:01.019.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Davis qualified for Saturday's final with a personal-best time of 7.71, good for fifth overall and third in his heat.

"Very good day for the Golden Bears as prelims at indoor nationals are very competitive," director of Cal track & field Tony Sandoval said. "Ashtyn was so explosive tonight that he hit hurdle 3 while leading. It's going to be very close tomorrow. Thomas closed well in the last 200 and out-leaned the UTEP miler. It was as thin of a margin that I can remember. Tomorrow will test everyone to come back tired after the prelims to do it again in order to get to the podium. Thomas is a veteran and will run his best. Ashtyn is right there with the best hurdlers."

Joyce and Davis will compete along with Garrett Corcoran (3000 meters) in Saturday's finals. Joyce will run at 2:10 p.m. PT, Davis at 3:10 p.m. PT and Corcoran at 4:15 p.m. PT.

ESPN3 will stream the NCAA Championships live tomorrow starting at 1:55 p.m. PT. A re-air of the championship will take place on Sunday, March 12 starting at 4 p.m. PT on ESPN2.
