STANFORD – The No. 14 Cal beach volleyball team had its second consecutive successful weekend at Stanford to open the season, improving to 6-0 with dual wins over Utah and No. 16 Stanford.

The Bears defeated Utah 4-1 and beat Stanford 3-2 at the Stanford Sand Volleyball Stadium. Cal won all four of its duals last weekend at the first Stanford Tournament of the season.

"Across the board, we had a lot of success today," Cal coach Meagan Schmitt said. "At different points, everyone pulled out some really crucial points when we needed them."

Cal's No. 5 pair of junior Teya Neff and freshman Bridget Gustafson remained perfect on the season, winning in straight sets in both duals. The pair has yet to drop a set this year.

Meanwhile, the Bears' all-freshman No. 4 pair of Nicole Anderson and Iya Lindahl also have yet to lose this season after a sweep against Utah and a three-set victory over the Cardinal.

Cal's No. 3 pair of junior Jessica Gaffney and freshman Camille Stepanof won both of its matches Saturday in sweeps. The Bears' No. 1 pair of junior Bryce Bark and sophomore Mia Merino swept Utah's top duo, 21-17, 23-21.

"The girls are starting to see that we are a top team," Schmitt said. "We don't have to play spectacular for every single point in order to win. We just have to play well."

The Bears will host their home opener next Saturday against Sac State at the Clark Kerr Sand Courts. The dual starts at Noon.
