Cal Hosts Arizona Schools
BERKELEY – California hosts the Arizona schools this week in the cozy confines of the Hellman Tennis Complex. The Golden Bears, ranked sixth and 12th in the two national polls, bring a 7-3 record (1-1 in the Pac-12) into the match against Arizona (9-4, 1-1 Pac-12), which is set for Friday at 1:30 p.m. The Bears will take on No. 15/45 Arizona State (7-3, 2-0 Pac-12) at noon on Saturday at Hellman.
Cal is also welcoming back former Golden Bears on Saturday for Alumnae Day.

Poll Position
Cal is tied with Georgia for the No. 6 spot in Wednesday's USTA Top 25, while the Bears are ranked 12th in Tuesday's Oracle/ITA team poll. The USTA ranks ASU 15th, while the Oracle/ITA poll has the Sun Devils at No. 45.

Karla Popovic is ranked ninth and senior
Maegan Manasse is ranked 45th in singles and sophomore
Olivia Hauger is ranked 96th. In doubles, Hauger and Popovic are ranked 23rd, Manasse and

Alexis Nelson are ranked 46th, and Starr and Jansen are ranked 65th.
Scouting the Bears
- Karla Popovic has a 27-3 singles record, including 3-2 on court one and 2-0 on court two; she was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week for winning twice in singles and doubles in Cal's wins over UCLA and USC in February
- Earlier this year, Popovic won the singles title and paired with Olivia Hauger to capture the doubles crown at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships in the fall; the Bears have a 17-4 doubles record
- Maegan Manasse has an 8-3 singles record so far this season; the four-time All-American won the singles and – with Jansen – doubles titles at this year's Cal Winter Invitational
- Jansen, a two-time NCAA champion in doubles, and Manasse have a 7-3 record
- The doubles team of Denise Starr and Alexis Nelson is 6-0, while Jansen and Starr are 1-0
- Starr, an All-American in doubles, is 11-10 in singles, including 4-1 on court two
- Sophomore Maria Smith (20-10 in singles) was named the Athletic Study Center Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor for the week of Feb. 6-10
- Cal alumna Amanda Augustus (class of 1999) was named the 2016 Wilson/ITA National Coach of the Year and was a two-time NCAA doubles champion in her playing days in Berkeley; she is in her 10th season as head coach of the Bears
- Zack Warren in in his third year as the Cal women's tennis assistant coach
Scouting Arizona
- The Wildcats defeated Colorado, 4-0, on March 10 and then lost to Utah, 4-3, on March 11 in their last two matches
- Lauren Marker is ranked 31st in singles
- Vicky Maes is in her 16th year as Arizona's head coach
Scouting Arizona State
- ASU plays at Stanford on Friday
- Arizona State beat Utah and Colorado, March 10 and 11 respectively, by a pair of 4-0 scores in its last two matches
- Three Sun Devils are ranked in singles in No. 48 Sammi Hampton, No. 70 Kelley Anderson and No. 97 Kassidy Jump
- In doubles, Nicole Fossa Huergo and Alexandra Osborne are ranked 44th, while Hampton and Jump are ranked 59th
- Sheila McInerney is in her 33rd season as head coach of the Sun Devils
