BOULDER, Colo. - Maegan Manasse became the first Golden Bear other than Olivia Hauger and Maya Jansen to clinch a victory this season in California's 6-1 win over Colorado on Friday in the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center. The 45th-ranked Cal senior defeated Nuria Ormeño-Ruiz, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4, at court-one singles to give No. 8/14 Cal a 4-0 lead, with the teams completing the last three matches to produce the final score.

"I had a lot of fun," Manasse said. "I had the fourth win of the day and was really excited. It was just nice to finish the match today and get the win for team."

The Bears, who improved to 10-3 (4-1 Pac-12), and Buffaloes (9-7, 1-4 Pac-12) played indoors due to rain in Boulder.

With Jansen not playing Friday, Manasse also played with senior Denise Starr in doubles for the first time since early November. Manasse and Starr formed Cal's No. 1 doubles team last season, when the two Bears finished as NCAA doubles finalists. But Cal's court-one doubles team this spring has consisted mainly of Jansen – a two-time NCAA doubles champion in her days at Alabama – partnering with either Manasse or Starr.

On Friday, Starr and Manasse beat Colorado's Louise Ronaldson and Chloe Hule, 6-1, before Hauger, a sophomore, and Karla Popovic, a junior, defeated Nuria Ormeño-Ruiz and Kyra Wojcik (Colorado), 6-4, on court two to clinch the doubles point.

"Denise and I have good chemistry on and off the court," Manasse said. "It was great to play together. We had a great time, and we played very well."

Starr gave Cal a 2-0 lead when she beat Annabelle Andrinopoulos, 6-4, 6-4, on court three, and then the seventh-ranked Popovic made it a 3-0 lead when she beat, Ronaldson, 6-4, 6-3. The teams were only able to play three singles matches at a time at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center. The matches on courts one, two and three were played first, so when Cal took the 3-0 lead, Manasse had a good chance of joining Hauger (who's clinched five times) and Jansen (who's clinched four) as the only Bears to clinch this season.

Later, the 69th-ranked Hauger beat Wojcik, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(7) and sophomore Maria Smith defeated Hule, 7-6, 6-3. Cal senior Stephane Lin fell to Brigitte Beck, 6-3, 6-4, to make the final score, 6-1.

"It's been a while since we played indoors, and the team handled it very well," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "In singles we maybe were a little rusty from not having played last weekend. But we made the necessary adjustments and were in control of the matches.

"Colorado competed well. It was good for us to get another conference win today, and winning on the road was good as well. I was just pleased. The girls were really excited to get out and compete again."

Cal plays another Pac-12 match on Sunday at Utah.
