Cal Plays Stanford In Rescheduled Big Slam
BERKELEY – Another busy week for the Golden Bears starts on Tuesday at 3 p.m., when No. 5/7 California (9-1) plays No. 44 Stanford (6-3) in the twice-rescheduled Big Slam down on the Farm.

The match was originally scheduled for Feb. 4. But rain forced the postponement of the nonconference dual match to Feb. 9, and then the match moved to Tuesday due to storms in the Bay Area the week of Feb. 9. There is currently a 10 percent chance of rain on Tuesday at Stanford, according to Weather.com.

The second Big Slam of the season will take place on April 22 at 3:30 p.m. at Cal's Hellman Tennis Complex, with the Pac-12 Networks broadcasting what will also be a Pac-12 Conference match as well as both teams' regular-season finale.

Poll Position
Cal was ranked fifth in the March 1 USTA Top 25 poll and seventh in the Feb. 28 Oracle/ITA team poll. The USTA will release its new rankings on Wednesday, while the new Oracle/ITA team, singles and doubles rankings come out on Tuesday.

Florian Lakat is ranked 20th, senior
Andre Goransson is 26th, senior
Filip Bergevi is 63rd and junior
Billy Griffith is ranked 80th. Bergevi and Lakat are ranked second in doubles.

Scouting the Bears
- Florian Lakat, a previous Pac-12 Player of the Week (Feb. 20), has a 14-5 singles record and is 7-2 at court-one singles
- Lakat and Filip Bergevi, who won the doubles title at the Saint Francis Health System All-American Championships in the fall, have a 13-2 doubles record
- Andre Goransson, who has an 18-5 singles record and beat Bergevi for the singles title at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships last fall, clinched Cal's 4-3 win over Michigan on Feb. 28
- Bergevi is 13-4 in singles
- Ranked 45th earlier this season, the pair of Goransson and Billy Griffith has a 12-3 doubles record
- In singles, Griffith has a 16-3 record; his thrilling three-setter clinched the win over UCSB in the second half of a doubleheader on Feb. 26
- Two proud Cal alumni lead the Golden Bears: 2016 Pac-12 Coach of the Year Peter Wright (class of '91) is in his 24th year as head coach, while associate head coach Tyler Browne (class of 2008) is in his ninth year on the staff

- Stanford has lost two straight after falling to USC, 4-3, on Feb. 24 and to UCLA, 4-2, on Feb. 25 in Los Angeles
- The Cardinal received votes in the March 1 USTA rankings and is ranked 44th in the Feb. 28 Oracle/ITA poll
- As of the Feb. 22 poll, Tom Fawcett is ranked 12th, Michael Genender is ranked 73rd and Jack Barber is ranked 77th in singles

The five-man class of Jacob Brumm, Paul Barretto, Jackson Suh, Ben Draper and Jack Molloy – which arrives in Berkeley next fall – gave Cal (with 461 points and 8 first-place votes) the edge over Florida (460 point, 8 first-place votes) and UCLA (433 points, 3 first-place votes) in the top 25 poll.

Bears Celebrate 125 Years of Cal Tennis
Cal men's tennis is celebrating the 125th year of the program, which has produced multiple national champions and All-Americans in its storied history. The perennial powerhouse, which was founded in 1892, has won three national team titles, four national singles titles and 14 national doubles championships from NCAA, USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships and ITA All-American Championships. The Golden Bears have also captured several conference singles and doubles titles as well.

Now in his 24th year as head coach at his alma mater,Â
Peter Wright has coached 17 players who combined to earn 18 All-America honors and led the 2015-16 squad to the NCAA team semifinals. Wright has earned his share of accolades along the way, including his third Pac-12 Coach of the Year award last season and selection into the USTA NorCal Hall of Fame in the summer of 2015.

Cal completes a three-match week when it hosts TCU on Friday at 5 p.m. and Texas on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The Bears will then hit the road to again play in the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Tennis Challenge Presented by Oracle from March 17-19 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California. The tournament includes Baylor, Oklahoma, Purdue, SMU, South Florida, Tulsa and USC.
