STANFORD, Calif. – California and Stanford finally played their twice rescheduled nonconference dual match on Tuesday on the Farm, with the Golden Bears losing the Big Slam, 4-3, to the Cardinal at Taube Family Tennis Stadium. Senior Filip Bergevi, back in the lineup after missing a few matches, fell to Stanford's Michael Genender at court-three singles, 6-2, 6-7(4), 7-6(9), to decide the match.

Cal's record now stands at 9-2. Stanford improved to 7-3.

The Bears and Cardinal will play their Pac-12 Conference match on April 22 in Berkeley to close the regular season.

Earlier, Cal captured the doubles point when the 54th-ranked pair of senior Andre Goransson and junior Billy Griffith beat Genender and Sameer Kumar, 7-6(0), on court two. Prior to that, Bergevi and senior Florian Lakat, newly ranked No. 1 in Tuesday's Oracle/ITA doubles poll, beat Tom Fawcett and William Genenson, 6-4, at court one.

In singles, the 30th-ranked Goransson lost in an upset to the unranked Kumar, 6-3, 6-1, on court two to tie the match at 1-1. Griffith, ranked 53rd then defeated the 89th-ranked Jack Barber on court four, 6-3, 6-1, to lift Cal to a 2-1 lead.

Later in the see-saw battle, Stanford pulled ahead at 3-2 when the 13th-ranked Fawcett knocked off the 14th-ranked Lakat, 7-6(5), 6-4. But Cal junior J.T. Nishimura knotted the match at 3-3 with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Brandon Sutter on court six, until court three settled matters.

"Just another epic match with Stanford that came down to a third-set tiebreaker," Cal head coach Peter Wright said. "Give a lot of credit to Stanford for battling back after we won the doubles point. We played hard today but couldn't finish the job."

Cal hosts No. 31 TCU on Friday at 5 p.m. under the lights at the Hellman Tennis Complex followed by a match against No. 8 Texas on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Berkeley.
