SEATTLE – Twelfth-ranked California came away with a 2-0 road trip after beating No. 37 Washington, 4-1 on Sunday at the Bill Quillian Tennis Stadium. Billy Griffith clinched the win over the Huskies with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Enzo Sommer at court-three singles.

On Friday in Eugene, Oregon, the Golden Bears edged Oregon, 4-3, to start Cal's last road trip of the regular season.

With two wins in the Pacific Northwest, Cal's record improved to 17-6 (4-1 Pac-12). The Huskies' record is 12-9 (1-5 Pac-12).

"We played a very solid match today, from start to finish," Cal head coach Peter Wright said. "I think we managed our energy well, and we created opportunities and acted on them. Washington always plays us tough in Seattle, and today was no different."

The Bears opened doubles with a win on court one, as the fourth-ranked pair of seniors Florian Lakat and Filip Bergevi beat Jake Douglas and Piers Foley, 6-2. Freshmen Dominic Barretto and Bjorn Hoffmann clinched the point when they knocked off Amit Batta and Wendell Watanabe, 6-4, on court three.

In singles, UW tied the match when Foley beat Barretto on court six, 6-2, 6-2. But Cal won three straight to end the match. On court two, the 45th-ranked Andre Goransson defeated Douglas, 6-4, 6-3, and then the 15th-ranked Lakat beat the 90th-ranked Mitch Stewart, 6-2, 6-2, to set up the 88th-ranked Griffith to clinch and end the match.

"We have a solid week of practice ahead before hosting Stanford and then heading into the Pac-12 tournament and the NCAAs," Wright said.

The Bears will complete the regular season on April 22 when they host Stanford. April 22 will also be Cal Day on the UC Berkeley campus. At the Hellman Tennis Complex, the Bears will celebrate McManus Legends Day – honoring Cal tennis alumni – and will conduct Senior Day after their match. The men's Big Slam will start at 3:30 p.m. or directly after the Cal women's tennis match against Stanford that starts at noon at Hellman. Both matches will air on the Pac-12 Networks.
