Andre Goransson will be honored as part of Senior Day after the Big Slam.
BERKELEY – The California men's tennis team will cap a busy day on the UC Berkeley campus when the Golden Bears host Stanford in the Big Slam on Saturday at the Hellman Tennis Complex. In a first for Hellman, both Cal tennis teams will host their Cardinal counterparts on Saturday, with the women starting play at noon and the men starting at 3:30 p.m. or directly after the women's match ends.
Â
The Pac-12 Networks will broadcast both matches.
Â
The No. 11 Cal men (17-6, 4-1 Pac-12) are looking to even the season series with the No. 15 Cardinal (14-6, 4-2 Pac-12) in Saturday's conference clash. Stanford beat Cal in a nonconference match, 4-3, on March 7 on the Farm.
Only UCLA and USC are still in the running for the Pac-12 regular-season title and conference tournament top seed, which they will determine with their head-to-head match on Friday. Cal would finished second in the Pac-12's regular season - and nab the tournament's No. 2 seed - if UCLA beats USC and the Bears defeat Stanford. If USC beats UCLA and Cal beats Stanford, Cal would take the third seed behind UCLA. If Cal loses to Stanford, Cal would be the fourth seed.
Additionally on Saturday, Cal will celebrate McManus Legends Day and, after the men's match, Senior Day, in which the Bears will honor the careers of
Filip Bergevi,
Andre Goransson and
Florian Lakat. Fuddruckers will also provide free hamburgers at Hellman.
Â
Saturday will also feature Cal Day, the university's annual open house. With parking at a premium, fans are encouraged to take public transportation to the Big Slam.
Â
Admission is free for regular-season matches at Hellman. Fans can also keep track of the Big Slam by following the team on Twitter @CalMensTennis.
Â
With the Pac-12 Networks televising both matches on Saturday, the Hellman live stream will not be in use.
