				 TUCSON, Ariz. – The 20
th ranked Cal beach volleyball team saw its season come to a close Thursday after a pair of losses at the Pac-12 Championships at the University of Arizona.
The Bears (13-12), seeded sixth in the nine-team field, opened play against the host and third-seeded Wildcats and fell 5-0. Cal, playing with a shuffled lineup due to an injury to sophomore
Mia Merino of the No. 1 pair, still pushed Arizona for much of the morning. The Bears' new No. 1 pair of junior
Bryce Bark and
Olivia Rodberg staved off a handful of set points in the first set before falling to McKenna Witt and Madison Witt, 24-22, 21-8. The No. 2 pair of
Jessica Gaffney and
Camille Stepanof fell 21-15, 24-22 in a match where they also staved off set points and had two of their own before losing.
Cal's No. 5 pair of junior
Teya Neff and freshman
Bridget Gustafson won the first set against Natalie Anselmo and Halli Amaro before falling 17-21, 21-17, 15-11.
The Bears weren't able to capture a set in their contender's bracket match against seventh-seeded Washington and lost 5-0 to the Huskies as well.
Neff and Gustafson finished the season with a record of 16-10, second on the team only to freshmen
Iya Lindahl and
Nicole Anderson, who were forced to be broken up as a pair due to the new lineup.
Cal will still be represented in the pairs portion of the Pac-12 Championships, which begins Friday afternoon. Bark and Rodberg take part in a play-in match against Oregon's Taylor Agost and August Raskie while Anderson and sophomore
Grace Campbell play Utah's Carly Trueman and Bailey Choy in another play-in match. Both matches begin at 3 p.m.
