BERKELEY –Zion Corrales Nelson certainly came prepared for the final home weekend at Edwards Stadium. Racing at the Brutus Hamilton Open Friday afternoon, the freshman from Burnaby, British Columbia, set a couple of lifetime bests and, as a result, put her name in Cal's all-time top 10 in two events.

First, Corrales-Nelson claimed the women's 100 meters in 11.77 seconds, which lifted her into 10th on the school's all-time list in the event. Then a short time later, she covered the 200 meters in 23.74, good for No. 8 in Cal history with the fastest mark for the Bears in four years.

"It was a very casual day today with the open events, except for a couple of scoring events," director of track & field Tony Sandoval said. "We did pretty well in the hammer. We had some athletes that ran today to simulate running at the Pac-12 Championships where they have to run two days in a row. The big breakout for us today was our freshman, Zion Corrales Nelson. She tied her PR in the 100, and ran a legal 200, and both of those marks are in the all-time top 10, which is significant. That was exciting. We had some other PRs in the 200 and 100, but that was the one that certainly stood out to us."

Teammate and fellow freshman Jackie Patterson was second to Corrales-Nelson in both races with pair of PRs of her own – 11.84 in the 100 and 24.19 in the 200.

Takeshi Okada and John Hogan were the first to finish in the men's 1500, with Okada leading the way in 3:54.08.

In the men's 100 meters. Diab Davis outraced teammate Demetris Robertson for the victory. Davis' time of 10.69 was just 0.02 off his lifetime best, while Robertson's 10.77 was a PR.

Katherine Haysbert ran away from the field in the women's 800 meters, claiming the race with a more than five-second margin in 2:12.22, which was second best and about a half-second shy of her PR.

In a change of pace from his 110-meter hurdles specialty, Ashtyn Davis competed in the men's open long jump and won the event with a distance of 22-9.

Destiny Parker edged Ilse Kaaja in the women's hammer as the Golden Bears finished 1-2. Parker had an effort of 197-0, while Kaaja came through with a mark of 195-11. In the men's hamper, Marshall Godsil took third (181-7), and Matt Esparza set a PR of 177-11.

Scott Chiesa established a season-best in the men's javelin with his winning throw of 206-11, and runner-up Terence Wilson set a PR with his mark of 195-6.
