BERKELEY – Three of the five matches went to three sets and the No. 18 Cal beach volleyball team was on the short end of a 3-2 dual meet against San Jose State on Saturday at the Clark Kerr Sand Courts.

The Bears' No. 5 pair of junior Teya Neff and freshman Bridget Gustafson improved to 11-6 on the season with a 21-11, 21-16 victory over the Spartans' Julia Golbeck-Kaitlynn Zdorik. Cal also scored a victory on the No. 3 court with sophomores Grace Campbell and Olivia Rodberg defeating Luiza Andrade and Giulia Gavio, 16-21, 21-13, 15-12.

Two of Cal's three losses came in three sets, as the No. 1 pair of sophomore Mia Merino and junior Jessica Gaffney fell to San Jose State's Allison Meehan and Lyndi Scholl, 21-19, 21-23, 15-10. The Bears' No. 4 pair of freshmen Nicole Anderson and Iya Lindahl fell to Summer Avery and Jamie Hirai, 18-21, 21-17, 15-11.

Cal is back on the court Tuesday at No. 19 Stanford at 4 p.m. The match will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks.
