BERKELEY - Olivia Hauger clinched 13th-seeded/13th-ranked California's quick 4-0 win over San Jose State in the NCAA round of 64 on Saturday at the Hellman Tennis Complex to move the Golden Bears into Sunday's round of 32 match against LSU. Hauger defeated Tamara Culibrk, 6-2, 6-0, on court four, right after fellow sophomore Maria Smith won 6-1, 6-1 over Gaelle Rey on court six. Senior Maegan Manasse posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over the Spartans' Sybille Gauvain to open singles.

The Bears will play LSU at 12 p.m. on Sunday - in their last match of the season at Hellman - for the right to advance to Athens, Georgia, for the rest of the NCAA Championship.

In doubles, the 55th-ranked pair of Hauger and junior Karla Popovic opened the day with a 6-1 win over Rey and Marine Dans on court two. The Bears clinched the point when the 34th-ranked pair of Manasse and Maya Jansen bested the 88th-ranked duo of Gauvain and Marie Klocker, 6-2.

The Bears then rolled through the Spartans, with Manasse, Smith and Hauger winning to send Cal to the round of 32.

Saturday's match was Cal's first in two weeks, as the Bears last played in the Pac-12 Championship final on April 29.

"San Jose State is a much-improved team, and it was a good match for us today," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "It was good for us to get back out on the courts. It was a little bit windy today, and we handled that well. I was pleased with how well we transitioned from doubles to singles. We kept our focus and really got a lot out of the match today."

Cal next faces a Tigers team that trailed 40th-ranked Tulsa 3-0 in Saturday first round of 64 match at Hellman before rallying to win 4-3.

"We'll have to be ready to go tomorrow," Augustus said. "They had an emotional victory today. We're not as familiar with their team; we know some of their players. But we'll focus on what we've been working on and make adjustments tomorrow during the match."
