BERKELEY – The Cal women's water polo team continued its strong All-Academic tradition Thursday, with eight student-athletes earning 2017 MPSF All-Academic honors.

Seniors Genevieve Weed, Madeline Trabucco and Stephanie Mutafyan each earned conference All-Academic nods for the third straight year while junior Kindred Paul was named for the second consecutive season.

Senior Emily Loughlin, juniors Dora Antal and Anna Illes and redshirt sophomore Kacey Avalos were selected for the first time.

Weed, who earned her degree in Integrative Biology earlier this month, has a 3.45 GPA. Mutafyan is an Interdisciplinary Studies major with a 3.29 GPA while Trabucco majored in English with a 3.11 GPA.

Freshmen and first-year transfers aren't eligible for the honor, meaning Weed, Trabucco and Mutafyan each earned All-Academic recognition every year they were eligible.

Paul is an Intergrative Biology major with a 3.49 GPA.

This marks the second straight year the Bears have had eight student-athletes garner MPSF All-Academic honors. Cal had nine selections in 2015.

The Bears finished the 2017 season ranked No. 4 in the country after advancing to the semifinals of the NCAA Championships.
