PRINCETON, New Jersey – Cal men's rowing head coach Mike Teti will join the U.S. National Team coaching staff this summer in preparation for the 2017 World Rowing Championships, USRowing announced Wednesday morning.

In this summer role, Teti will work closely with current U.S. men's head coach Bryan Volpenhein in the development, selection, and training of the boats that will compete at the World Championships, held from September 23 to October 1 in Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida.

"I am excited to participate in this collaborative effort with Bryan and my fellow collegiate coaches in helping to prepare the men's eight and four for the World Championships in Sarasota in September," said Teti. "I also want to thank USRowing's Board of Directors and High Performance Committee for their support in this endeavor."

The first person inducted into the National Rowing Hall of Fame as both a coach and an athlete, Teti was a World Champion and three-time Olympian as a rower, and has served on the U.S. coaching staff at the World Championships and Olympic Games regularly since 1996. Teti has coached the U.S. national team crews to total of 28 medals, highlighted by three consecutive world championships from 1997-99 and a gold medal in the eight at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. In 2008, Teti received the USRowing Medal, the highest honor bestowed by rowing's governing body.

"We are thrilled for Mike to have this opportunity with USRowing, continuing Cal's rich tradition of excellence by student-athletes and coaches on the international stage," said Cal Director of Athletics Mike Williams. "We wish Mike the best of luck this summer, and look forward to his return to campus in the fall for another successful season leading our rowing program."

The 2016 IRA Coach of the Year, Teti recently completed his ninth season as head coach of the Golden Bears, helping Cal to three medals at the 2017 Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championships. Teti has led Cal to a pair of Pac-12 and IRA titles in his tenure, highlighted by winning both the conference and IRA Championships in 2016.  The Golden Bears captured the Varsity Challenge Cup last season for the 17th time in program history and claimed the Ten Eyck Memorial Trophy as the overall team champion.
