Bergevi, Hoffmann Net ITA Scholar-Athlete Status

Filip Bergevi and
Bjorn Hoffmann earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, the ITA announced on Tuesday.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade-point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).

Bergevi, who graduated with a degree in economics after the 2016-17 season, boasted a GPA of 3.58 in his final year as a Golden Bear. Hoffmann, who is undeclared and just completed his first-year at Cal, had a 3.56 GPA.

On the courts this past season, Bergevi compiled an 18-9 singles record and Hoffmann was 23-14, with both Bears contributing heavily to Cal's 20-8 record and run to the NCAA round of 16. Bergevi also became a doubles All-American and an All-Pac-12 second-team honoree.

In doubles, Hoffmann had a 16-13 doubles record that included a 13-11 mark with
J.T. Nishimura. Bergevi had a 25-9 doubles record that included a 23-8 record with fellow senior
Florian Lakat. The two Bears ended their college careers after winning the doubles title at the ITA All-American Championships in the fall and then reaching the NCAA doubles round of 16Â and earning a final No. 9 doubles ranking in May.
