BERKELEY – The No. 11 California women's tennis team returns home to host the Cal Winter Invitational from Friday through Sunday at the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts. Players from Cal Poly, Fresno State and Saint Mary's will vie with the Golden Bears for singles and doubles titles in the annual tournament.
 
The draws for the tournament will be posted on CalBears.com on Friday morning. The first matches on each day will start at 10 a.m.

Poll Position
Cal earned a No. 11 ranking in the first Oracle ITA team poll of the season. In singles, Bright is ranked 27th, junior Olivia Hauger is ranked 40th and senior Karla Popovic – a 2016-17 singles All-American – is ranked 45th. The doubles pair of Popovic and Hauger is ranked 39th.
 
Last Time Out: Bright Claims Co-Singles Title In Hawaii
Cal freshman Anna Bright won again in singles on Monday at the Weinman Foundation Invitational to capture a share of the White Flight singles title as the tournament came to an end at the University of Hawaii Tennis Complex. The first-year Bear (3-0 in Honolulu) shared the title with Texas A&M's Macarena Olivares.
 
Last Year: Manasse Wins Cal Winter Invite Titles
The 2017 Cal Winter Invitational ended with familiar results, as then-senior Maegan Manasse captured the singles and, with Maya Jansen, the doubles crowns as the three-day event concluded on Jan. 15. The Golden Bear senior repeated as the tournament's singles champ.

Next Time
The Bears host one of several ITA Kick-Off Weekends around the country, with Cal facing UNLV and Texas taking on Mississippi State on Jan. 26 at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The two winners play on Jan. 27 for the right to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, which is scheduled to take place Feb. 9-12 in Madison, Wisconsin.
