No. 11 Cal Starts New Year In Hawaii
BERKELEY – The No. 11 California women's tennis team will open the New Year this week at the University of Hawaii's Weinman Foundation Invitational in Honolulu. Along with the Bears and Rainbow Wahine, players from Cal State Northridge, Washington State, Texas A&M and No. 25 TCU will take part in the tournament at the UH Tennis Complex, with Cal competing from Saturday through Monday.
UH will post the draws before competition begins each day at the tournament. Live scores are not available.

Last Time Out: Bright Falls In National Consolation Final
Anna Bright closed out the first half of an impressive freshman season in the consolation singles final at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships. The young Bear – who's posted a 16-4 singles record so far – fell to Florida's top-seeded senior Anna Danilina, 5-7, 7-6(3), 7-5, in the Nov. 5 final in Indian Wells, California.

Also on Nov. 5, another group of Bears combined to post three singles wins and a doubles victory as the ASU Thunderbird Invitational came to an end in Tempe, Arizona.

Cal earned a No. 11 ranking on Wednesday in the first Oracle ITA team poll of the season. In singles, Bright is ranked 27th, junior
Olivia Hauger is ranked 40th and senior
Karla Popovic – a 2016-17 singles All-American – is ranked 45th. The doubles pair of Popovic and Hauger is ranked 39th.
