MORAGA, Calif. – California's Can Kaya and Jackson Suh captured the doubles A backdraw title as the Saint Mary's Invitational came to an end on Sunday at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex. The Golden Bear sophomores defeated Santa Clara's Andrew Gu and Vasileios Iliopoulos, 8-6, in the final.

The Bears won three straight matches to take the consolation title. They had lost to another Santa Clara pair (Connor Garnett and Robert Seby) in the main draw's opening round of 16, in what was the Bears' first doubles match together.

"I didn't play with Jackson before in doubles, like with Paul in Milwaukee," said Kaya, who captured the main draw doubles title with Paul Barretto at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic in September in their first tournament together. "The first match (in Moraga) was a tough one, and we lost. But we came back, and today we actually had a really good match. We were down two breaks most of the match, but we managed to come back and win the match."

"Can and Jackson made a great turnaround after suffering a tough first loss in doubles," Cal associate head coach Tyler Browne added. "They are learning more and more about their own abilities, and it was great to see them grow as young players this weekend."
