Cal-CSU East Bay Postgame Quotes
Cal-CSU East Bay Postgame Quotes
California Head Coach Wyking Jones
Opening remarks:
"I saw some good things. I told the guys throughout the course of the game when we move the ball around, and make the defense work, we get really good looks. We got in the lane, penetration to dump-offs, penetration to lobs. I think far too many times we came down and one dribble hand off into a shot, one pass shot. We played too much one-on-one basketball, and moving forward, we need to play more team basketball. When we did that, we looked really good, I was happy with the execution."
Â
"It was good to see
Matt Bradley play well. Through the course of the game, he gave us something on the offensive end, and he was good end the defensive end as well. And, it was good to see Cobi (Jacobi) be able to play, first and foremost, and come in and hit a couple shots. We've got some room for improvement. You know, I like our talent level out there. Defensively, I'll look at the film and it will tell me a little more as far as the defense is concerned."
Â
On Paris Austin's performance tonight:
"Statistically, he looked good. He finished the game with 8 assists, something we didn't see last year. I felt like he pushed the issue a little bit too much at times. He got in the lane and looked to score when he could've kicked out to guys spotting up shooting. But, overall, I thought it was a solid job by him.
Â
On two freshmen big (Andre and Connor) performance tonight:
"I thought they were solid as well. There were a couple times Connor didn't get back on defense, and they made us pay. But, I thought they were solid. I didn't feel like they were nervous. And for freshman, that's a big step. I felt like Andre was very comfortable out there, and I felt like Conner was comfortable out there. So, I was happy I didn't see any fear in their eyes. They were there to compete. They still have a lot to learn, but they have very bright futures.
Â
On upcoming trip to China:
"I'm very excited about China. Were there for eight days, and so we will have a lot of time to soak in the culture, see some things, and meet some people. I'm really excited about China. I think it's a great event, and guys are excited about going over."
Â
Â
On putting on the Cal uniform for the first time this season:
"It felt good. The score, the crowd, the cheering; it made me feel comfortable and got my nerves out quickly."
Â
On upcoming trip to China:
"I'm excited for the overall experience. I'm excited to experience a different culture, being in a different environment, interacting with different people and playing basketball. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Even if it wasn't for a game, whatever the occasion was, I'm just happy to go out there.

Â
On impressions of tonight's game:
"I thought we did good by getting the win. Obviously, we didn't win the way we want to, and we have a couple things to work on, but we got the job done".
Â
On playing East Bay:
"We looked at this as any given team. We wanted to worry about ourselves and the things we need to work on. We wanted to make sure we did the things we do right in practice. And tonight, we didn't do those things."
Â
On improvements moving forward:
"I feel like as a team, we need to get better with transition defense and offensive rebounding. We took a lot of rushed shots tonight, everyone was excited to get out there and play. It's something we have to work on."
