Cal Doubles Wins Again In Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – California's Yuta Kikuchi and Jacob Brumm beat another top-20 team on Friday at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships when they knocked off Virginia Tech's 16th-ranked Carlo Donato and Mitch Harper, 7-6(1), 6-3, in the main draw singles round of 16.
 
This marked the second straight big win for the unranked Golden Bears, who on Thursday upset the top-ranked and top-seeded team of Mississippi State's Nuno Borges and Strahinja Rakic at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
 
Brumm and Kikuchi will next play Ohio State's Alex Kobelt and Kyle Seelig in Saturday's quarterfinals not before 3 p.m. CT at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Like the Bears, the Buckeyes advanced into the main draw as lucky losers.
 
Also on Friday, Kikuchi fell in the consolation singles draw to UC Santa Barbara's 32nd-ranked Nicolas Moreno de Alboran, 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-3, in the opening round of 32.
 
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Cal won three out of four matches on Friday to start the UCSB Classic.
 
In the A Singles draw, junior Dominic Barretto fell to Fresno State's Zdenek Derkas, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, while sophomore Jackson Suh topped David Goulak of UC Davis, 6-0, 6-4, in B singles and sophomore Can Kaya beat LMU's Ethan Prost, 6-4, 7-5, in C singles.
 
The pair of Barretto and Kaya defeated UCLA's Connor Hance and Connor Rapp, 8-3, in the A Doubles bracket.
 
The Gauchos' tournament ends on Sunday.
