SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – California men's tennis took home a title from the UCSB Classic when Can Kaya defeated Cal Poly's Alexander Stater in the C Singles final on Sunday. The Golden Bear sophomore defeated the Mustang, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

But in the A Doubles third-place match, the pair of Kaya and junior Dominic Barretto lost to Washington's Jack Davis and Piers Foley, 8-4.

In the final of the A Singles backdraw, Barretto fell to Victor Krustev, 6-1, 6-1, while in the B Singles final, sophomore Jackson Suh retired when trailing Washington's Foley, 4-6, 6-1, 3-1.

"I was really proud of the way Can competed this weekend," Cal associate head coach Tyler Browne said. "Over the last two weeks Can has committed himself to a more aggressive style of play. He also showed a lot of growth with his attitude and intensity point after point."

"Overall the weekend went well," Browne added. "We're learning more and more about our strengths and weaknesses. All three guys are working on their long-term development."

The Bears return to action when they compete in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships from Oct. 11-15 in Seattle.
