Cal-Hampton Postgame Notes

All Five Starters Score In Double Figures For The Bears

  • All five starters scored in double figures for the Bears – Justice Sueing (17), Darius McNeill (11), Paris Austin (20), Matt Bradley (11) and Andre Kelly (15).
  • Darius McNeill, who set a school freshman 3-point record with 67 last year, shot 3-for-6 from behind the arc and finished with 11 points – all in the first half. It marked the 11th time in his career he has had at least three 3-pointers in a game.
  • After scoring 21 points and shooting just 20 percent from the floor in the first half in the opener against Yale, Cal scored 48 points and shot 57.1 in the first half Tuesday night vs. Hampton. Darius McNeill and Justice Sueing led the way offensively with 11 points apiece. The 48 points were the most the Bears scored in a half since totaling 51 in the second half vs. UCLA last Jan. 6.
  • Cal dished out 16 assists, led by 6 from Paris Austin, after getting just 6 assists against Yale. Justice Sueing also tied his career high with 4.
  • Cal's 16 assists match the second-most for the Bears during head coach Wyking Jones' tenure. The 2017-18 season-high was 17 against Washington State on Feb. 22.
  • Juhwan Harris-Dyson, who missed the exhibition game and Cal's season-opener vs. Yale with a hand injury, made his first appearance early in the first half. Roman Davis also gained his first action of the year later in the half.
  • Cal shot 8-of-14 from 3-point range (57.1%). That's a higher percentage than any game last year when the Bears' best was 52.9 percent (10-19) vs. Wichita State.
  • Cal was just one block shy of matching the school-record 11 blocked shots in a single game. The Bears have recorded 11 blocks five times, last on Nov. 28, 2017 against CSUN.
