Scully 6-0 As Captain In 2018 As USA Beats Romania

Boyer Earns First Cap Amid Historic Stretch For National Team

BUCHAREST, Romania – Two former California standouts helped the U.S. National Team continue an historic stretch of success on Saturday as Blaine Scully captained the USA Eagles to a 31-5 win over Romania and Nicklas Boyer joined the action in the second half to become the 57th Golden Bear to earn a full international appearance on the national team.
 
The win on Saturday continues an 8-0 run for the national team in full internationals in 2018, with Scully serving as captain in six of those victories. The former Cal captain, two-time national champion and four-time All-American has now captained the Eagles in 11 international tests and has 41 caps to his credit.
 
The team's stretch of success in 2018 has also included the United States' first-ever win over a Tier 1 nation, a 30-29 thriller over Scotland that took place June 13 in Houston; first-ever win over Samoa, another 30-29 win contested Nov. 10 in Spain; two wins over Canada and a victory over Russia in addition to Saturday's win in Bucharest.
 
Augmenting the occasion Saturday was the first full international 15s appearance by Boyer, an All-American and contributor to multiple national titles for the Bears. Boyer entered in the 72nd minute against Romania became all-time Eagles No. 530 and brought the number of all-time full international appearances by Cal players on the national team to 722.
 
The U.S. National Team has one international test remaining on the 2018 calendar, Nov. 24 vs. Ireland in Dublin.
