Bears Sweep Relays On Day 2 Of Georgia Invite
Cal Wins 200 Medley Relay And 800 Free Relay; Darcel Adds Victory In 400 IM
ATHENS, Ga. – Cal kept up the pace on the second day of the Georgia Fall Invitational Friday, picking up three more event victories and posting a pair of NCAA A qualifying times.

The 200 medley relay led off the night session, and Cal's foursome of
Keaton Blovad,
Ema Rajic,
Katie McLaughlin and
Abbey Weitzeil touched the wall first in an NCAA A time of 1:35.65 – the No. 2 time in the country this season and the eighth fasted the Bears have been in the event in school history. Cal and Michigan were locked in a close battle through three legs with the Bears trailing by 0.02 seconds before Weitzeil took off on her anchor leg. The Cal junior blazed to a 21.00 freestyle split to give the Bears a 0.41-second victory.

Sophomore
Sarah Darcel then defended her title in the 400 individual medley, winning the race by two seconds in 4:09.06. Teammate
Dannie Dilsaver also reached the top final and placed eighth in 4:20.44 after a 4:17.61 swim in morning qualifying.

McLaughlin led a pair of Cal swimmers in the 100 butterfly, finishing third in 52.01, while
Maddie Murphy was seventh in 53.60. Next, sophomore
Robin Neumann tied her career best in the 200 free when she finished as the runner-up in 1:43.38, and McLaughlin, racing a few minutes after her 100 fly final, took fourth in 1:44.58.

In the 100 breaststroke, Weitzeil and Rajic both earned spots in Cal's all-time top 10 in the event. Weitzeil was fourth in the race in 1:00.43, a personal best that keeps her ninth in school history. Rajic's sixth-place time of 1:00.96 makes her No. 10 on the list.

Two Cal swimmers also scored in the A final of the 100 backstroke. Blovad claimed second in 51.95 and
Courtney Mykkanen was eighth in 53.61.

A pair of Bear divers placed among the top five on the 1-meter board, as
Alexa Cacao took fourth with a score of 257.65 and
Briana Thai was right behind in fifth at 249.25.

In the final event of the evening, Cal won its third relay in four tries, edging out Georgia and Michigan for first place. The quartet of Weitzeil, Neumann, Darcel and McLaughlin secured an NCAA A qualifying standard with a time of 6:59.25, just over two seconds ahead of the Bulldogs and Wolverines. McLaughlin's 1:43.79 split was the fastest of all anchor legs by more than a second to help Cal to its winning margin.

Michigan leads the team standings with 678 points, followed by Cal (578.5), Georgia (554), Virginia (405) and UCLA (281.5). The three-day meet concludes Saturday with six more events on the docket.
