Cal Duo Wins Fall Nationals Opener

SURPRISE, Ariz. – California's Jacob Brumm and Yuta Kikuchi won their doubles opening round of 32 Wednesday at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, upsetting the third-seeded pair from Ohio State at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex.
 
The Golden Bears topped the Buckeyes' Kyle Seelig and Alex Kobelt, 7-6(5), 7-6(4). Brumm, a sophomore, and Kikuchi, a freshman, will next play N.C. State's 15th-ranked twin-brother duo of Ivan Saveljic and Igor Saveljic in Thursday's round of 16 at a time TBA.
 
Earlier on Wednesday in the singles opening round of 64, Kikuchi lost to Virginia Tech's 12th-ranked Mitch Harper in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.  The Bear will now move into the consolation draw and face USC's Tanner Smith in the round of 32 at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

The second annual fall national tournament ends on Sunday.
