The No. 4 Cal women's water polo team begins MPSF play this week with a showdown against No. 1 Stanford in the annual Big Splash, which will air on the Pac-12 Networks. The Bears and Cardinal have already met once this season, with Stanford holding on for an 11-9 win in the championship game of the Stanford Invitational. That was the closest game the defending NCAA champions have had this season.

ON THE AIR
The Bears will be making the first of two television appearances this season on Sunday, as the game against Stanford will air on the Pac-12 Neworks. Greg Mescall and former Olympian Chris Dorst will have the call. Cal's match at USC o April 7 will also be televised by the Pac-12 Networks. Both games begin at 5 p.m.
ANTAL TOPS CAL'S SCORING CHARTS
Senior
Dora Antal became Cal's all-time leading scorer during the Stanford Invitational on Feb. 4, notching a goal against San Jose State that gave her 217 for her career to surpass former All-American Emily Csikos. Antal, a two-time Olympian for her native Hungary and the only three-time First Team All-American in program history, now has 229 for her career.

The Bears feature three of the top six scorers in the MPSF, as senior
Dora Antal ranks second at 2.13 goals per game, fellow senior
Carla Carrega is fourth at 2.07 goals per game and sophomore
Emma Wright is sixth with 1.87 goals per game. Antal has finished in the top-4 in the conference in each of her first three seasons at Cal, while Carrega placed third in the MPSF in 2016.

The Bears feature five All-Americans on this year's roster, inlcuding three-time honorees
Dora Antal and
Anna Illes. Antal is the only three-time First Team All-American in program history, while Illes has been named to the second team, third team and honorable mention.
Carla Carrega also garnered third team honors as a sophomore in 2016 while
Kindred Paul earned honorable mention that same year. Sophomore
Emma Wright was honorable mention last year.
BEARS PICKED SECOND IN MPSF POLL
Cal was picked to finish in second place in the MPSF in the conference's annual preseason poll, including one first-place vote. It marks the highest the Bears have been chosen to finish in the poll since 2012. Cal received 22 votes in the poll, right behind conference favorite Stanford. USC and UCLA were picked to finish in a tie for third.
PETRI TAKES BIGGER ROLE
Four-time Olympian
Heather Petri was named a full-time assistant coach in the offseason after serving as the team's volunteer assistant coach last year. Petri is the only four-time female Olympian in Cal history, earning a gold medal with Team USA in 2012, the silver medal in 2000 and 2008 and a bronze in 2004. Petri played at Cal from 1997-99 and 2001 and was a two-time All-American. She was inducted into the Cal Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013 and named to the Pac-12 All-Century Team in 2015.
SPIEKER GETS A MAKEOVER
Spieker Aquatics Complex has a new look in 2018. The entire pool was replastered during the summer of 2017 and new bleachers were installed on both the upper and lower levels. A new scoreboard was also added, and all games will now be played directly in front of the new stands at the south end of the complex.
