INDIAN WELLS, Calif. - Jacob Brumm clinched a big California victory for the second consecutive day and this time send the 39th-ranked Golden Bears to the final of the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Tennis Challenge. In Saturday's semifinals, the Golden Bear freshman edged Roy Smith in three sets to secure Cal's 4-2 win over the second-seeded and 29th-ranked Baylor Bears at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, one year after Baylor knocked off Cal in the semifinals. Third-seeded Cal will face top-seed and fellow Pac-12 team Arizona State in Sunday's final at 10 a.m.

The Bears and 26th-ranked Sun Devils get a second shot at facing each other after their March 10 match in Tempe, Arizona, was rained out.

Cal improved to 7-4 after Saturday's win. Baylor is 13-4.

In Friday's quarterfinals, Brumm clinched Cal's quarterfinal victory over Purdue.

Baylor took a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. But first the 32nd-ranked team of Cal seniors Billy Griffith and J.T. Nishimura upset the second-ranked duo of Will Little and Johannes Schretter, 6-3, on court one. Baylor evened matters when Smith and Sven Lah beat Cal sophomore Dominic Barretto and freshman Can Kaya, 6-4, on court three. Cal freshman Ben Draper and Jack Molloy pushed Akos Kotorman and Constantin Frantzen on court two, before the Baylor team won, 7-5.

Cal rallied in singles, as first Draper upended Frantzen on court five, 7-6(4), 6-2, and then the 52nd-ranked Griffith beat the 66th-ranked Bjoern Petersen, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, to give the Golden Bears a 2-1 lead.

Baylor's Lah topped freshman Paul Barretto, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, to knot things at 2-2, and then Nishimura – in one of four three-set matches – upset the 123rd-ranked Matias Soto, 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-3, on court two. That lifted Cal to within one point of victory, with Brumm bringing the Bears the rest of the way.

"Our seniors continue to lead their younger teammates by example," said Peter Wright, Cal's Director of Men's Tennis. "Their performances in doubles and singles today set the tone for an exciting finish to a hard-fought match. Baylor is known for being physically and mentally strong.

"Today, our team demonstrated the type of grit and determination that we strive to demonstrate every time we take the court. Jacob Brumm and Ben Draper played two of their best matches of the year so far. It's encouraging that each match we play, win or lose, our team learns and gets stronger."
