SAN DIEGO – The Cal women's rowing started the 2018 campaign with an impressive showing in San Diego, sweeping all four of its events at the 45^th annual San Diego Crew Classic. Facing a field with crews from across the United States and Canada, the Golden Bears put together an impressive showing in their first official competition of the spring, with all four boats charting first-place finishes.

"The team did a great job this weekend," said head coach Al Acosta. "We got in some solid racing against some very tough competition. Now we are looking forward to getting some good work done over spring break."

After taking first in all of their heats on Saturday, the Golden Bears got started Sunday morning with the varsity four claiming the Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+ Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup. Cal finished first in a time of 7:38.11, with open water over second-place Texas.

The second varsity eight followed suit shortly after, winning the Women's Collegiate 2V Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy.

In the Women's Collegiate Varsity Jessop-Whittier Cup Invitational, the Bears' varsity eight proved up to the task yet again, racing strong start to finish and holding off the challenge from a talented Texas crew.

Cal closed the regatta victorious fashion, with the third varsity eight winning the Women's Open Carley Copley Cup against a seven-team field

The Bears will be back in action next weekend at Redwood Shores for the Pac-12 Invitational on March 31 and April 1.
