Bear Duo Named All-Americans
CHICAGO – California finished its visit to the Midwest in notable fashion as senior
Yordan Aleksandrov and sophomore
Kyte Crigger recorded top-five finishes at the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championship to earn All-America nods on Saturday.
Aleksandrov's stellar collegiate career closed with a 13.966 high bar routine to tie for fourth and solidify his status among the best in the nation. The Santa Rosa, Calif., native, recorded a noteworthy 14.100 on the parallel bars to tie for 11th.
Crigger, who did not compete in the NCAA tournament in 2017, recorded a 14.200, his second-best score of the season, to tie for fifth nationally.
"I am tremendously proud of these young men," said head coach
JT Okada, who closed his first year at the helm of the program Saturday. "For Kyte to put on the performance he did after several difficult injuries in his career and for Yordan to do so well in his final routine as a Cal Bear is nothing short of amazing."
A total of seven Bears participated in individual competition with
Mitchell Awisus scoring a 13.100 on pommel horse and
Jonathan Wang earning a 13.533 on the parallel bars.
Aaron Mah also competed on the high bar and scored a 12.633.
Bear duo
Shane Sadighi (13.033) and
Harrison Plate (12.933) rounded things out on the rings.
