TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 14 Cal beach volleyball team split a pair of duals Saturday on the final day of the Wildcat Invitational, defeating Colorado Mesa 5-0 before falling to No. 15 Arizona 3-2.

The Bears (17-4) won all five matches in straight sets against the Mavericks, holding Colorado Mesa to single-digits in five sets. Cal's No. 1 team of freshmen Mima Mirkovic and Alexia Inman notched a 21-8, 21-9 win while the No. 5 pair of junior Grace Campbell and freshman Maddie Micheletti cruised to a 21-6, 21-5 victory.

The Bears and Wildcats split the first two matches, as Campbell and MIcheletti won in straight sets but the No. 4 team of junior Mia Merino and freshman Caroline Schafer fell 21-19, 21-18. Merino and Schafer fell behind 20-13 in the first set before scoring six in a row to make it tight.

Arizona took a 2-1 lead in the dual when Mirkovic and Inman lost in straight sets. It looked as though Cal's No. 3 team of senior Bryce Bark and sophomore Madison Dueck may force a third set when they cut a 18-12 deficit in the second set to 18-17. But the duo ultimately succumbed, 21-13, 21-18.

The Bears' No. 2 pair of senior Jessica Gaffney and sophomore Iya Lindahl closed out the dual with a come-from-behind 19-21, 21-18, 15-8 win.

Cal now has a full week off before taking part in the Pac-12 North Invitational next weekend in Seattle.
