BERKELEY - The Golden Bears were antsy to get back on the courts, and it showed, as No. 34 Cal posted a quick, 4-0 victory over No. 32 Utah on Sunday in a match rescheduled from Friday due to rain. Freshman Jack Molloy clinched the win when he beat Egbert Weverink, 6-3, 6-4, at court-three singles at sunny Hellman Tennis Complex.

Cal wrapped up the win in about one hour and 45 minutes.

The Bears secured the doubles point when the 27th-ranked pair of seniors Billy Griffith and J.T. Nishimura defeated Weverink and Joe Woolley, 6-1, on court one. Earlier, Molloy and freshman Ben Draper topped Russell Benkaim and Randy Cory, 6-1, on court two.

Cal was dominant in singles, winning all six first sets. Draper gave Cal a 2-0 lead when he completed a 6-2, 6-4 win over Sanitago Sierra on court four. Griffith, ranked 57th, beat the 97th-ranked Dan Little, 6-4, 6-2, on court one to make the score 3-0, before Molloy ended the match.

"It's so nice to play at home," said Peter Wright, Cal's Director of Men's Tennis. "Our guys – after getting rained out on Friday – were anxious to play. We came out with a lot of energy and played extremely well in the doubles. We were extremely focused. Our singles play was equally impressive. We played some of our most focused tennis of the year. It's exciting to get some sunshine, and we were playing at home. Our guys were really motivated today."

The Bears – who had a match rained out at Arizona State earlier this season – added a nonconference match against San Francisco to their schedule and will face the Dons on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Hellman.
