Hurkmans Wins Bronze In Austria

LINZ-OTTENSHEIM, Austria – The World Rowing Cup II wrapped up on Sunday in Austria with five current and former members of the Cal men's rowing team competing for their respective countries. Rising senior Maarten Hurkmans won bronze with the Netherlands in the eight, while classmate Ferdinand Querfeld and rising junior Christoph Seifriedsberger raced together in the Austrian pair, charting a second-place finish in the B final on their home race course.

Recent graduates Morgan Hellen '16 and Niki Van Sprang '16 also raced over the weekend. Making his debut with the senior men's national team, Hellen helped Great Britain to a fifth-place finish in the men's four. Van Sprang, who also raced for the Netherlands at the World Rowing Cup I earlier this month in Belgrade, Serbia, took finished first in the B Final in the men's double sculls.

The next major event on the international racing schedule is the World Rowing Cup III, which will be held July 13-15 in Lucerne, Switzerland. The Under-23 World Championships and European Championships will be held at the conclusion of the month.
