Johnson And Kaukolahti Record Their Best Marks On Their First Attempt

EUGENE, Oregon – McKay Johnson and Tuomas Kaukolahti both finish in 18th place on day three of the NCAA Outdoor Championship on Friday at Historic Hayward Field.
 
McKay Johnson was competing in his second event of the NCAA Championship as he took 18th in the men's discus competition. Johnson recorded a first throw of 175-3 to sit in 10th after the first round of competition. The sophomore was unable to better his marks on either of his next two throws as he finished in 18th. Johnson earned Honorable Mention All-America for the second time this week. He took 17th in the shot put competition on Wednesday. Johnson notched a mark of 18.92m/62-1.00 in the shot put.
 
Kaukolahti recorded an identical 18th place finish as he leaped 15.53m/50-11.50 in the triple jump competition. He leaped 50-11.50 on his first attempt despite jumping into a small wind. The Finland native sat in 11th at the time. His second attempt went 50-10.25. Kaukolahti appeared to hit a big jump on his final attempt, but his foot crossed the line on the takeoff. He earned Honorable Mention All-America honors in his first outdoor campaign.
 
Johnson and Kaukolahti join the Cal contingent that has earned All-American honors this week. Ashtyn Davis, Silviu Bocancea, Peter Simon and Lauren Martinez all earned second-team All-America honors over the first two days of the NCAA Championship
 
The NCAA Championship will conclude with Ashley Anderson competing in the triple jump. She will take to the pit at 3:40 p.m. with the broadcast streamed live on ESPN3.
